Auto Repair in Portland, CT
The town of Portland, CT, is located in Middlesex County, south of Hartford along the Connecticut River, across from Middletown. Portland covers a land area of more than 23 square miles, home to a population of about 9,500 people.
Nicknamed “Quarry Town,” Portland took Its name from Portland, England, famous for its stone quarries. Portland was originally part of Middletown, then Chatham, until it broke away to become its own town in 1841. Proximity to the river allowed for abundant stone transportation out of the Portland brownstone quarries, a major local employer in the 19th century, along with shipbuilding. Both industries collapsed by the mid-20th century, and the quarries are now a national historic landmark. Portland today maintains eight marinas and boat clubs, plus three 18-hole golf courses.
